It’s hard to imagine a great moment in Patriots’ history and not think of the resonating tone of Gil Santos.
Santos was the voice of my childhood and he will always be the voice of the Pats.
I have many of his famous calls embedded in my brain from watching the ’01, ’02, and ’03 Super Bowl DVDs over and over throughout the years. He was a class act in and out of the booth and he was without a doubt one of the best announcers of all-time.
In a way Gil was the heartbeat of the Patriots. He delivered the games to Pats fans, that were unable to be in front of a TV or in the stadium, from 1966-1980 and then from 1990-2012. He painted the scenes in our heads with his voice.
Kraft, Brady, and Belichick may be the main characters of this legendary story that is the Patriots dynasty but Gil Santos was the narrator.
RIP Gil. Your calls will live with us forever.
