It’s the most wonderful time of the year…and no I’m not talking about the holidays. It’s time for the NFL Playoffs and in just a few days it’ll be Wild Card Weekend, the most entertaining weekend of the playoffs (don’t @ me).
The matchups for this Wild Card Weekend are some of the best in recent memory. There’s no joke teams that squeaked in this year..ahem..the 2017 Bills and Titans..
Starting on Saturday (God I love Saturday football) we’ll see the red hot Colts head into Houston as they play for the third time this season. The two teams know each other too well and both can pack a punch on offense. Indy and Houston are evenly matched in my mind but Andrew Luck and his offensive line have been too good this year to be a “one and done” team. I’ll take the Colts in a shootout!
Prediction: Colts 33, Texans 31
On Saturday night the Seahawks will play the Cowboys in “Jerry-land”. Both teams had 10-6 records in the regular season but the ‘Boys won their division and will have homefield. I think the Dallas homefield advantage will be the difference in this one as Seattle has had some trouble on the road while the Cowboys have been a force at home lately, going 7-1 this season at AT&T Stadium. These two played earlier this season in Week 3 with the Seahawks winning 24-13 but that game was in Seattle and both of these teams have changed since. The well balanced Cowboys will prevail at home.
Prediction: Cowboys 27, Seahawks 17
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! On day two of Wild Card weekend things will kickoff in Baltimore with the Ravens and Chargers going at it for the second time in three weeks. In the last meeting the Ravens went out to LA and easily handled the Chargers in a 22-10 win for Baltimore. At the time the Chargers were hot off a win in Kansas City and the Ravens needed a win badly for their AFC North title quest. This time around everything is at stake for both sides and while Philip Rivers and the Chargers will be traveling 2,600 miles I think they’ll overcome the feisty Ravens. Los Angeles has proven they’re a great road team with wins in Denver, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Seattle so I don’t think Baltimore’s homefield will scare the Bolts too much. I’ll take the veteran QB over the rookie.
Prediction: Chargers 30, Ravens 20
The Wild Card finale will feature the defending champion Eagles and the gritty Chicago Bears. The Bears have had inconsistency on offense all season but boy they may have the best defense in the league. I love this Chicago team but they may have their hands full with an Eagles team that refuses to go away! This game may be close and Philly has experience on their side but ultimately the Bears are stronger. Chicago went 7-1 at home this season (the only loss being against New England) and with homefield in this one I expect them to win.
Prediction: Bears 20, Eagles 13
If these prediction go as planned we’ll be looking at these Divisional Round matchups:
Colts @ Chiefs
Chargers @ Patriots
Cowboys @ Saints
Bears @ Rams
….yet another round of great matchups! Let’s see how it all turns out.
