Coming from a Bethesda fan, these past few months have left a bad taste in my mouth.
Being one of many fans that anxiously awaited the release of Fallout 76, I shared the disgust with others over the games release. Fallout 76 is an unfinished, lazy attempt at creating a video game.
I tried to love 76 but no matter how much I wanted to enjoy myself, I was just stuck with a feeling as empty and unsatisfying as the game is itself. I never felt as if there was a purpose for my efforts or any satisfaction in my questing or exploration.
Compile that with the way Bethesda has handled the games release and it’s aftermath, I am flat out disappointed.
I feel like Bethesda doesn’t give a shit about me as a fan.
But it didn’t have to be this way.
This wasn’t the first or the last time I have been disappointed by a game upon release. When Xbox exclusive Sea of Thieves was announced well before Fallout 76, I was stoked. But Sea of Thieves was also released in an empty state.
I remember specially saying that Rare “better add more and quickly” because the game had very little going for it. Rare did just that.
Rare has released free update after update for Sea of Thieves which continues to add life to the game. The studio also takes time to converse with their fans and show that they are putting their best foot forward to make the game as fun as they can.
I genuinely believe that Rare cares about Sea of Thieves and their fans. Bethesda has left me questioning their long run of epic games which doesn’t bode well as we look forward to The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield.
Hopefully Bethesda is paying attention to how Rare is handling Sea of Thieves and taking care of the many people who bought their game.
We love you Rare.
We want to love you again Bethesda.
